To all of the wonderful Instructors at Monroe Martial Arts!
Hello all,
Laura and Mike Krupa here. We just wanted to share an experience with you that demonstrates the practical application to all the "Stranger Danger" methods taught in your school and to thank you for helping us to avoid what could have been a horrible situation!
John's dad received tickets to the NFL Experience at Cobo Hall in Detroit this Super Bowl weekend. He and John headed downtown Sat. night for the fun. The place was extremely crowded and John and his dad got separated in a sea of people. John's martial arts training immediately kicked into gear. He found a security guard and told him he lost his dad. They took him to a series of security people with walkie talkies and asked him for all his personal information, which, thanks to your teachings, he knew very well. He could even describe in detail what Dad was wearing. Meanwhile Dad found a policeman who, in turn, communicated by radio to security, and Dad and son were reunited within 10-15 minutes of losing each other. The security and police personnel were so impressed with Johnny's handling of the situation. Of course, we are so proud of John and so thankful for his education and training in Martial Arts CKD. The thing that most comforted his dad in those few harrowing moments was that he knew John was not abducted because he would have applied his training, kicking, fighting, and screaming "You're not my dad!" and Mike was sure that John would use that training if needed.
So, we wanted you to know the value of what you are teaching and how much we appreciate your efforts! Thank you to all and keep it up, for all our sakes!
Sincerely,
Laura, Mike, and John Krupa

Changing Lives, One Student at a Time...
I recall our first encounter was in January, 2004 with the introduction of the martial arts to three of my young children. They ranged in age from 3-6 at the time and were too young know the real-life benefits of the martial arts. They enjoyed playing dress up, practicing stranger encounter scenarios and of course getting a piece of candy at the end of class. Little did they realize that they were learning valuable life skills and cultivating self-esteem, confidence, tolerance and self-control.
My personal training at the Dojang began in April 2004. The personal satisfaction in this achievement is equivalent to, if not greater then, my graduation from medical school. Martial Arts under Kwanjahngnim Werner has taught me, not only self-defense but also "life-defense". Anyone can teach a basic pattern followed by a test to advance to the next belt level. Kwanjahngnim instills practical value of each pattern and add the spice of a real life experience to enhance the lesson. Mr. Werner teaches his students to rise gracefully and with humility from personal failure and mistakes and to take the "higher road" when someone mistreats or shames them.
Monroe Martial Arts has become my second home. The Werner's foster an atmosphere of care, personal attention and friendship. Mr. Werner has crafted his school to be the "Harvard" of Martial Arts Training Academies in the Midwest.

Father & Son Training Together
Practicing Martial Arts at your facility has brought my son and I closer together, improved our health, level of fitness and overall well-being. I can't thank you enough for encouraging me to make the move from parental spectator to actually training alongside my son and learning and practicing together with him.
I was very apprehensive, at first, to begin training at the age of 32. But you provided the spark that ignited and grew to light the path for my son and I to follow; the path in which you and Josh have forged and blazed before us.
I must also show my appreciation to you for constantly improving all areas of training at the Do Jang. You have made incredible changes in the past five years that have, and can only continue to, elevate the level of training at the school. From moving to the new building which more than tripled the size of the training area and outfitting the school with the best training equipment available, to providing enthusiastic instructors that are dedicated, outgoing and motivating; these things do not go unnoticed and make training at your facility a great experience. Thank you for encouraging me to always do my best and work harder in everything I do. Since the first time I broke a board, my self-confidence has grown. You and the Monroe Martial Arts instructors inspire me to better myself physically and make practicing martial arts lots of fun. I love padded swords class and am working very hard to reach my goal of black belt!

The first day I came to class, there were 3 of my future instructors doing the splits on the floor, a 65 year old man with pins in his joints, and a 9 year old black belt! I thought if they can do it, I can too! And so I did.
Mr. Werner, thank you for changing my life. Thank you for letting me bring smiles to your students faces. Thank you for the guidance and instruction that allowed me to grow and be a better martial artist and instructor. And most of all, thank you being my friend. You and your family have done so much for me. I now possess the abilities to able to teach on my own. And none of these things would be possible without you. You and your family are, and will always be, my master, my instructors, and my close friends.
Congratulations on 15 years of instruction, and changing people's lives. You've made me into the man I am today. Strong, self-confident, chief instructor, training for his 3rd black belt! Good luck in everything you do. PIL SUNG!

Mr. Werner,
God has blessed me with a lot of great coaches and teachers who encourage me to do my best in what they are teaching, BUT you are the only one who encourages me in all that I do!!!! You and all the instructors here at Monroe Martial Arts really help to bring out the best in me. Being here has made me stronger inside and out. When I walk through the front doors I feel so thankful that I can be part of this family!!!! I wish everyone I love could come because I know how it would make them stronger and happier.

I made it a routine to come to Martial Arts regularly. When I make mistakes, I always go back and try again until I do it right. Monroe Martial Arts taught me that.

Mr. Werner, I owe you the biggest thank you of all. I would never be in the position that I am today without your encouragement, support, and compassion. It has truly made a huge difference in my life, as well as the life of my children. PIL-SUNG!

Martial Arts is not just learning patterns, speed drills, and defense drills. It is a way of life. I wish more parents and adults would get that concept. I will be starting another adventure in my life. This time I will get to train with my son and soon my daughter. We will work together to become great martial artists. You see, I get it.
